Gibson was born in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Gibson spent time in California, North Carolina, and Georgia during his childhood. Raised mostly in Atlanta, Georgia, Gibson is a graduate of Henry Woodfin Grady High School (now known as Midtown High School).

He received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an English minor from Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During his undergraduate tenure, Gibson held various jobs ranging from restaurant manager to musical director of a program for promising youth with troubled pasts.   

Gibson then moved to Boone, North Carolina to attend Appalachian State University (ASU), where he obtained both Master of Arts and Education Specialist degrees in higher education. During his time at ASU, Gibson worked as assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School and Chief Research Officer.

Gibson then moved to Pennsylvania and worked at Penn State in the Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs as the assistant to the Chief Diversity Officer for Graduate Education and Associate Dean of The Graduate School for Graduate Educational Equity. During his time at Penn State, Gibson completed a Master of Education degree in higher education.

Gibson is also an independent consultant, serving non-profit and corporate clients. He founded his consulting practice, Seerscape Solutions LLC, in 2016. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he advised Fortune 500 companies on a range of diversity-related human resources issues as senior consultant for Icarus Consulting LLC. He then served as inaugural Chief Diversity Officer of Lees-McRae College, a private, Presbyterian liberal arts college in North Carolina. He is currently a doctoral candidate (All But Dissertation) in the ASU Doctor of Education program in educational leadership. 

Gibson
 serves on the advisory board of two organizations: Icarus Consulting LLC, a boutique corporate human resources consulting firm  and Caring For Others, Inc., a non-profit that provides human services with a focus on eradicating hunger and poverty. Both organizations are based in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area.   

Gibson's most prized possession is a trophy inscribed with the words "World's Greatest Brother" given to him by one of his younger brothers.  He is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He is a past president of the fraternity's Zeta Theta Lambda Chapter  (Harrisburg, PA) and currently affiliated with its Alpha Pi Lambda chapter (Winston-Salem, NC). Gibson is also affiliated with Kiwanis International through the Banner Elk Club, Division 3, Carolinas District. Gibson is also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
